If you’re just entering the job market, or you’re re-entering after some time away, you might notice the terms “certificate” and “certification” being tossed around. Even though the terms seem like they should be related since they sound so much alike, they actually refer to two different processes.

If you’re an adult in the U.S., the likelihood that you have at least one chronic disease is pretty high. The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (part of the CDC) reports that 6 in 10 adults in the U.S. have one chronic disease, and 4 in 10 have two or more. In fact, chronic disease is the leading cause of death and disability in the U.S. as well at being at the top of the list related to health care costs. 

Life can get pretty hectic, so if you’re an adult who is experiencing any combination of working, raising a family, learning through a self-paced online course, and/or trying to keep your head above water, then your life is about as hectic as it gets. When the stress is piling up, you’ll want to take a look at how to manage your expectations and your schedule before you decide to forget everything and disappear to a deserted island somewhere. 

Even in the past twenty years, lots has changed. And if you’re surprised by the fact that when we say “twenty years ago, we mean the year 2000, then you probably understand how quickly time passes. If you’ve been in a specific professional industry for a while, then you can probably name plenty of changes to the way you do your work that have come about since you started in your career. Since change is inevitable, it’s up to you to make sure you’re keeping up with the times. In most industries, you can keep up with the times by adding a professional certificate program to your resumé.

Remote work is something many of us dream of, and according to research referenced in Forbes, “25% of all professional jobs in North America will be remote by the end of 2022.” In other words, aiming for a remote position isn’t nearly as far of a reach as it might have been before the pandemic. Once you set your sites on a remote position, it’s time to ask yourself what you’re qualified to do and how to add additional qualifications to your resumé to snag one of these golden opportunities.
