Our synchronous sessions are designed to help provide additional instructor-led activities and interactions to help with some of the more complex topics. No need to worry, though…if you miss a session, they are all recorded! You can connect with your instructor on questions you have at any time. 

Program Starts

This program starts every two weeks so that students can begin the program with a cohort of students starting at the same time, whenever possible. A list of start dates for 2022 can be found below: (I’ll provide this when we finalize our first official start day)

Technology Requirements

Students will need to have access to the internet as well as a computer that can work with the software used in this program. Using a Chromebook, tablet, or phone will not be possible for this program given the nature of the material. Most software used will be open-source, free downloads. However, students may need to purchase short-term subscriptions to software. The benefit of students purchasing this software themselves is that all the work they do will stay with them and they will have access to it after they complete their program with WTI.

WOL-401 presents the latest laws, regulations, and practices in the field, delivering extensive coverage of every aspect of the law and detailing the duties a paralegal is expected to perform. The course combines high-level, comprehensive coverage of both criminal law and criminal procedure with recent developments, foundational concepts, and emerging trends such as terrorism, treason, and national security crimes; cyber stalking; virtual child pornography; corporate crime; and racial profiling. Case excerpts promote case analysis skills, while learning aids help sharpen students' problem solving and analytical skills

Course Objectives:

• Compare and contrast federal and state authorities in criminal law.
• Identify and describe the objectives of criminal law.
• Define the two basic elements of most crimes, mens rea and actus reus.
• Analyze contemporary legal issues concerning death and suicide.
• Describe the major provisions in the Constitution of the United States and its amendments that apply in the criminal context.
