Course Description

PHAR-101: Pharmacy Technician provides students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to assist licensed pharmacists in clinical and retail settings. Beginning with the history of pharmacy and the principles of pharmaceutical care, the course introduces pharmacy law, ethics, patient communication, and prescription processing. Students will learn to interpret prescriptions, perform pharmaceutical calculations, and work with different dosage forms and routes of administration.

The course explores diverse practice environments including community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, and specialized areas such as sterile and non-sterile compounding. Emphasis is placed on safety, error prevention, and administrative responsibilities including insurance billing, inventory control, and regulatory compliance. Students will also study pharmacology concepts such as pharmacokinetics, microbiology, and therapeutic drugs across all major body systems, from the nervous system to the integumentary system.

In addition to core instruction, the course provides resources and practice exams to prepare students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) examination.
