PLAW-225: Constitutional Law is an online paralegal course designed to provide a deep understanding of the U.S. Constitution and its role in shaping law and justice. Using Constitutional Law and the Criminal Justice System (8th Edition) by Harr, Hess, Orthmann, and Kingsbury, students will study the origins of constitutional law, the structure of government, and the Supreme Court’s role in interpreting constitutional rights.
Key topics include equal protection, the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment, the Second Amendment and gun rights debate, and criminal procedure protections under the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments. Students will analyze case law, explore the balance between individual rights and governmental authority, and evaluate how constitutional law influences both civil and criminal practice.
By integrating theory with practical applications, the course prepares students to assist attorneys in cases involving constitutional issues, criminal investigations, and civil rights litigation. Upon completion, learners will be able to interpret and apply constitutional principles with confidence in legal support roles, paralegal positions, or further legal studies.
