Course Description

PLAW-205: Civil Litigation Law provides students with a detailed look at the civil litigation process and the paralegal’s essential role in supporting attorneys throughout a case. Using The Litigation Paralegal: A Systems Approach by James W. H. McCord and Pamela R. Tepper, this course covers each phase of a lawsuit, from the initial client interview and complaint drafting to discovery, trial preparation, and appeal.

Students will gain practical experience in drafting pleadings, managing discovery requests, organizing evidence, and preparing trial materials. Special focus is given to evidence collection, investigation techniques, and electronic discovery, along with strategies for settlement and alternative dispute resolution.

Through hands-on exercises in case management and document preparation, learners will develop the procedural knowledge and practical skills needed to contribute effectively in litigation-focused legal environments.
