HEALTH-101: Anatomy & Physiology provides students with a strong foundation in human biology, focusing on the relationship between structure and function in the body. Using Body Structures and Functions by Ann Senisi Scott, the course covers the organization of the body from the cellular level to complex organ systems, with emphasis on homeostasis and responses to internal and external change.
Students will study all major systems—including integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive, endocrine, and immune systems—while also examining blood, genetics, nutrition, and disease processes. Infection control, safety procedures, and laboratory practices are integrated to provide real-world context for healthcare professions.
This course is designed for students preparing for careers in nursing, allied health, or medical assisting, as well as those in medical coding programs who need to accurately interpret clinical documentation. By combining scientific theory with practical applications, students develop the knowledge and terminology essential for success in healthcare and health information management fields.
