Program Starts

This program starts every two weeks so that students can begin the program with a cohort of students starting at the same time, whenever possible. A list of start dates for 2022 can be found below: (I’ll provide this when we finalize our first official start day)

Technology Requirements

Students will need to have access to the internet as well as a computer that can work with the software used in this program. Using a Chromebook, tablet, or phone will not be possible for this program given the nature of the material. Most software used will be open-source, free downloads. However, students may need to purchase short-term subscriptions to software. The benefit of students purchasing this software themselves is that all the work they do will stay with them and they will have access to it after they complete their program with WTI.

Curriculum

MED-C202 simplifies the process of memorizing complex medical terminology by focusing on the important word parts -- common prefixes, suffixes and root words -- that provide a foundation for learning hundreds of medical terms. Organized by body systems, this course follows a logical flow of information: an overview of the body system's structure and functions, a summary of applicable medical specialties, and then pathology, diagnostic, and treatment procedures. Students master the language necessary to describe how each body system works, what goes wrong with it, and how to treat it, and then put their new skills into practice in exercises.

Course Objectives:

Throughout the course, you will meet the following goals:

  • Identify the roles of the four types of word parts used in forming medical terms.
  • Use your knowledge of word parts to analyze unfamiliar medical terms.
  • Define the uses of anatomic reference systems to identify the anatomic position plus body planes, directions, and cavities.
  • Recognize, define, spell, and pronounce the primary terms related to the structure, function, pathology, and procedures of tissues and glands.
  • Name, locate and describe the function of the different body systems of the human body.
  • Describe diagnostic procedures used, nuclear medicine, and pharmacology terms.
