MAR-101: Internet Marketing

MAR-101 provides the foundations and basic principles of marketing products and services on the internet. This course also discusses a wide variety of internet marketing related topics, including the essential internet marketing tools, and how to develop internet marketing strategies and programs. MAR-101 also connects some basic business concepts, such as business models, business relationships, customer service, and privacy, to the ever-evolving digital world.

Throughout the course, you will meet the following goals:

  • Explain how the internet originated and why it is unique as a communications medium.
  • Describe customer experience and why it is the focus of digital transformation.
  • Distinguish between: supply chain, value chain, virtual value chain, and value ecosystem.
  • Explain the ways in which the internet is a direct-response medium.
  • Define social media marketing and explain its importance to modern businesses.
  • Explain SEM, SEO, PPC, and the basics of optimizing a website for organic search.
  • Explain how the internet and search in particular has changed the B2B buying process.

MAR-102: Marketing Research

This course provides a fundamental understanding of marketing research methods employed by well-managed businesses. MAR-102 is broadly structured to follow the steps in the marketing research process by covering topics such as: problem definition, research design (exploratory, descriptive and causal), data collection methods, questionnaire design and attitude measurement, sampling schemes, and data analysis. This course emphasizes both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of marketing research.

Throughout the course, you will meet the following goals:

  • Understand marketing research is and what it does for business.
  • Explain how big data can be used to help businesses make better decisions.
  • List the major stages of the marketing research process and the steps within each.
  • Understand marketing ethics and ways that researchers can face ethical dilemmas.
  • Compare, contrast, and know how to use qualitative research and quantitative research.
  • Know what a survey is and how it can provide insight into explaining human behavior

MAR-103: Contemporary Marketing

MAR-103 is a concentrated study of how today’s successful businesses market and sell their products and services. Due to the constantly evolving landscape of social media and digital advertising, this course focuses on the most recent industry developments and prepares students to be able to successfully apply this knowledge to real-world situations. MAR-103 is packed with case studies and concludes with students designing their own marketing plan for a real product.

Throughout the course, you will meet the following goals:

  • Contrast the focus of marketing activities during the five eras of marketing history.
  • Summarize how marketing creates value through the four types of utility.
  • Differentiate the six categories of marketing.
  • Contrast how marketing plans differ at various levels in an organization.
  • Summarize the five opportunities offered by digital marketing.
  • Explain three ways consumers rely on social media to make buying decisions.
  • Summarize the five major factors that influence the global marketing environment.
  • Critique a promotional mix based on the five factors that influence its effectiveness

MAR-104: Social Media Marketing

MAR-104 has an explicit focus on the marketing use of popular social media platforms, including both those that are well established and those that are emerging. Conceptual frameworks and the explication of a social media marketing plan are illustrated using a strong example. This course discusses a variety of social media initiatives to help students keep up with the latest developments and includes current social media marketing campaigns and developments, preparing students for today’s ever-changing world of social media marketing.

Throughout the course, you will meet the following goals:

  • Explain why social media is important to business around the world.
  • Explain characteristics of SMM and how it differs from traditional offline marketing.
  • Define a social media plan and explain the SMM planning cycle.
  • Describe big data and explain its role in SMM audience targeting.
  • Define the rules of engagement for SMM and how to make ethical social media decisions.
  • Identify the benefits of marketing with social networks.
  • Explain the marketing benefits of blogs, podcasts, webinars, and video streaming.
  • Discuss the growth of mobile connectivity and device use globally and in the U.S.
  • Identify quantitative and qualitative issues when choosing the right social media metrics.

MAR-105: Integrated Marketing Communications

MAR-105 helps students explore all aspects of marketing communications, from time-honored methods to the newest developments in the field backed by the latest research, data, and analytic techniques. The course focuses on the fundamentals of advertising and sales promotion, including planning, branding, consumer behavior, media buying, public relations, packaging, POP communications, and personal selling. MAR-105 focuses on emerging topics, such as the popularity of apps, social media outlets, online and digital practices, and viral communications.

Throughout the course, you will meet the following goals:

  • Describe integrated marketing communications (IMC) and its five key features.
  • Explain the activities involved in developing an integrated communications program.
  • Describe the benefits and challenges of developing a brand.
  • Appreciate the ethical issues associated with advertising, sales promotions, social media.
  • Explain the role IMC plays in designing and evaluating a promotional mix .
